Maki & Smith Farms ~ Valais Blacknose Sheep of Washington State
Based in the heart of Washington State, Maki & Smith Farms operates in the agriculture rich region of the irrigated portion of the Columbia Basin and the beautiful rolling Palouse hills raising sheep, cattle, wheat, and hay. We have been involved with raising sheep for over 40 years—starting with registered Suffolk and Columbias. For the past 20 years we have focused our sheep farming operation around raising competitive club lambs for 4-H/FFA youth. In 2017, Sarah Smith and Linda Roberts began the journey raising Valais Blacknose Sheep with the importation of fullblood Valais Blacknose Sheep semen from the UK, with the first Valais Blacknose influenced lambs being born on the farm in June of 2018. In January 2021, we welcomed the first fullblood USA Valais Blacknose from embryos imported from New Zealand. As with our long history in the sheep industry, we are focused on producing healthy, structurally correct, productive sheep, with great eye appeal regardless of the breed. Our sheep management practices are focused around high quality standards to genetic selection, animal health, and animal care/management.
